Having read stirring and inspirational pieces in the national press reminding us of the importance of pantomime and, separately, theatre ( Veronica Lee in The I ” I love Panto" on Boxing Day, and David Hare ”Such Stuff as Dreams are Made On" in the Guardian ) I have been stirred to write to you to record and perhaps even recognise the enormous contribution to our local cultural health that has recently been made by the cast and crew involved in creating the wonderful Adventures of Sinbad at the Maltings. Wendy Payn and her pirate crew of actors, technicians, bar and box office staff and volunteers have worked miracles in a very short period of time to put on a piece of theatre that will have lasting impact on the many hundreds of children and others who will have entered into the plush environs of the Maltings Theatre for perhaps the first time. To see so many excited young people queuing up to have their photographs taken with the exotic characters such as Sinbad and Dame Sally Doollally warmed the heart of this hardened old theatre goer. People of Ben/vickshire, we must cherish the work put in by those that are prepared to spend the festive period entertaining us. Let us hope that their efforts will be renewed and welcomed for many years to come. Thank you one and all.
